I've been attending MMA 2014 - the Mobile Marketing Association Forum in NYC - where the linkages between connected TVs and mobile marketing are starting to come into focus.
Watched a great session from Tremor Video's Doron Wesly (@sabredutch) about the marketing opportunity for Connected TVs (which he calls "CTV"). Likewise, a session on best practices for push notification by Urban Airship got me thinking about how push could incorporate the Connected TV in a welcome, not annoying way. (Earlier in the day, a rep from the NHL said they're looking at using Push on Connected TVs and devices like Roku).
Here's what I think: new technology in mobile marketing and advertising will:
- Definitely come to the Connected TV.
- Definitely affect the way that brands think about their media spend.
- But change will be incremental - not slow, just incremental.
Expect to hear more about the force of mobile tech and business models on Connected TV at the TV of Tomorrow Show in SF on June 10th & 11th!
